Our 5th annual fundraiser of November 19, 2023, brought in $3,250.00.
Unfortunately, less than the previous years.
100% of the donation goes to Café Ilusión as no expenses are taken from the donation. The winner of the raffle was Michel Blanchet.

Here is a message (translated from Spanish) from Joan Grau of Café Ilusion:

Dear Sponsors of the US,

We thank you very deeply for your support years after years, that you provide to
The children and families of Café Ilusion.
Let me tell you that we continue to work intensely on the pedagogical processes, but especially in the most extreme cases in which psychic-psychiatric support is more fundamental.

As you know, humans are extremely fragile depending on what circumstances may affect us in our lives... and when, in addition to living in highly complex environments and in unstructured families, life involves other critical incidents, helplessness turns into deep fears. But you should know that the human team of Café Ilusión has learned, in these first 15 years of experience, to approach the same "foundations" that help us understand the "why", to address it to heal it.
Jacobo, just to give you one example, who is currently 11 years old, had to experience the murder of his father when he was only 5. Of course, that reality left a mother alone with two young children who did not have the necessary resources to be able to go through such a situation. And he grew up with every fear imaginable in his fragile inner world. And if that were not enough, last November he had to experience the suicide of his grandfather.
Jacobo does not know why it is common for his mood to have sudden changes and violence towards his peers, his environment... and towards himself.
But he has already begun to heal. Sometimes it's too hard to take it alone. But we can talk about it and, little by little, accompany him on the path of accepting the inevitable and getting the strength to an exciting life. And the mother too because life has not been easy for her either.

Sometimes, in a few cases, psychiatric medication is of temporary help to rebalance the mental, but fortunately we can usually do without it. We work with the ICBF (Colombian Institute of Family Welfare) in cases we need specific interventions. When detected early, we help some adolescents from continuing the path of substance consumption with good results.

Well, we are sure you can imagine so many other realities, but you must feel that you are part of the real solution. They exist although they require a lot of work, professionalism and above all humanity.

Thank you for being part of this; thank you for your support and trust.
