PROJECT

In the early 1990’s Vietnam, one group of medical doctors from France arrived to the Mekong Delta on a humanitarian voyage.  It was during the rainy season and what the humanitarians observed was poverty and homeless children, so a makeshift shelter was built as a relief.  Thus began the beautiful adventure of ASSORV in 1992 by its French founders with the inauguration of the first orphanage in Can Tho.  Some 50 children arrived to fill the structure, accompanied by adults, teachers and administrators, in cooperation with a local social service organization.

Today, thanks to the generosity of sponsors and donations, ASSORV continues to serve over 150 children in more than three orphanages in Vietnam. More than twenty of the children have gone on to receive university degrees, and returned to help a new generation of children. In addition to schools and orphanages, ASSORV funds have helped in emergency situations, such as floods and mudslides that have threatened the crops. ASSORV France was able to fund these operations in the beginning, but could not support all the activities alone, hence ASSORV California (now IAICF) was launched in 2007 with the mission of extending the scope of the operations. It costs $500 a year to sponsor a child, and $30,000 a year to maintain each orphanage. Today, our fundraising efforts and generous sponsors have allowed these children to have a future.

USE OF FUNDS

1. Support three existing orphanages (including teachers’ salaries, school supplies, utilities, food, clothing, and medical care). Two of the orphanages are located in Mekong Delta: in Can Tho (created in 1992) and in Vi Thanh (created in 1996). The third orphanage is located in Da Nang.

2. Creation and support of a primary school in Cao Bang in the mountains on the Chinese border for minority ethnic groups (Tay, Hmong, Nung, and others).

3. Creation of a second primary school in the same area. This project was completed in 2010.

4. Emergency situations, such as floods, mudslides and once-in-a-century frost. During the last recent frost, the rice crop was lost and 50,000 cattle’s died

5. Medical missions once every two years. Some 30 medical and paramedical volunteers (from France and from USA) provided over 3,000 consultations.

6. Numerous other smaller projects. Sponsorship:  It is possible to sponsor a child. Requirement: contribute $40 monthly.

7. After the untimely demise of our "partner"/ "associate" Stephane Gauger in January 2018, a memorial scholarship fund has been created to support deserving students with continued education. On-site visits: Every year members of IAICF and ASSORV France visit the orphanages.
